A Testimony for Posterity

You may have seen clear through this one already. In the midst of scripture study, journaling and prayer, you have already been pondering.

The desires of your Father and his Son for you are grand and limitless however. The Lord has said, “Behold, (see) I stand at the door, and knock: if (you) hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to (you), and will sup with (you), and (you) with me” (Revelations 3:20).

Through reading and studying the scriptures with prayer and confidence in what the Lord has shown to you, your only desire will be to receive more!

The Lord speaks of this truth when he says, “Seek not after riches nor the vain things of this world; for behold, you cannot carry them with you” (Alma 39:14).

 “…seek ye for the kingdom of God” (Jacob 2:19).

We are commanded to seek after the kingdom of God. And like Nephi of old, “…we talk of Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins” (2 Nephi 25:26).

Under this particular scripture I have written the word, “journaling.”

Within your journal you should talk of Christ, preach of Christ, prophesy of Christ, write of Christ. What better gift can you leave your children than your testimony of him?

If Mary had kept a journal, what do you think she would have written?

How I love the words of Mary! “And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name” (Luke 1:46-48).

Perhaps Mary kept a journal. And if so, what things would she have written about? Her own struggles and weaknesses? The things the Savior taught her?

What would it have been like to raise the Son of God?

Perhaps in a small way we can understand. For we are all children of God and some of us our raising our own children. What do we want for them? What do we want them to know and carry with them? What do we want them to know about us?

What are some things you feel inspired for your children to know? Make a list of ten. Using this list, write about each specific topic. Share your testimony. You may even want to compile your thoughts into a letter that you can give to your children today or sometime in the future.
